Astragalus Root Powder

I can barely pronounce it. So why is this so important? It’s an adaptogen. I have learned to stop and know this is good. If you have read any of my blogs you know I am a registered nurse. I am an educated woman. The world of herbs is boggling and difficult to navigate for a lay person like me. My hat’s off to all the herbalist in the world. I won’t get into too much detail, an adaptogen in the herbal world helps reduce stress. Different herbs work on different areas. Now as a nurse, cortisol levels, this is my lingo. In healthcare, if a patient is in shock and you can’t get them off medicine used to raise their blood pressure, the MD will check a cortisol level. Knowing the level will help in how they proceed with treatment. In the herbal world, adaptogens help decrease cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone. It also on one of the causes the dreaded belly fat. One of the benefits of taking adaptogens may include weight loss. The most popular reason people take adaptogens is to help boost their immunity and minimize the effects of stress. Signs of stress can manifest as lack of energy, GI symptoms. insomnia, aches/pains, headaches, rapid heartbeat and chest pain,

So the question I first had is simple. How and how much to use. Well, the thing about herbs is there hasn’t been a million studies. Most of the directions come from word of mouth. Most of the information out on the web tells me 60 grams a day for as long as four months may be safe for most people. Oh my first though is DARN. They usually sell it in ounces. OK here is the conversion (you’re welcome). One ounce is equivalent to a little over 28 grams. This is why, as a nurse, I keep stressing to see your health care professional if you have any medical condition, are on medicine, or if you are pregnant. If you have allergies research, research, research. The nice things about herbs is they are plant based. So, I digress. It’s recommended to use an adaptogen for up to four months. I will get into more detail about the classes of herbs and the chemical nature of the herbs in another post. what I will say is it is though people build up something like a tolerance so switch up the adaptogens…
