Nutrients/Active Ingredients:  Acetic acid, terpenoids, calcium, manganese, potassium, selenium, vitamin A, C, and zinc.

Uses by system and symptom:

  • Digestive/Gastrointestinal: Used for hemorrhoids, constipation, excess flatulence, and bloating, and help eliminate eating disorders.
  • Integumentary/Skin:  Diaphoretic used on wounds like bug bites and skin irritations.
  • Skeletal:  Arthritis and aching joints.
  • Muscular:  Sprained muscles.
  • Urinary:  Gout
  • Nervous: Thought to have a calming effect. Often used for anxiety, stress, insomnia, mood swings, depression. Used for some types of headaches and chronic migraines.
  • Immune:  Used for cold symptoms and to strengthen immunity.
  • Male/Female Reproductive: Used for menstrual pain, mood swings, and depression. 
  • Other:   Used as an insect repellant.

Common doses and preparation:  Leaves and flowers are used. Used as teas, tinctures, salves, in culinary cooking, and essential oils. Commonly 1-2 teaspoon/one cup water by infusion.  Tinctures are often 1-3 ml up to three times daily.
