Nutrients/Active Ingredients: The leaves are thought to have antiseptic and antimicrobial qualities. Contains ceramides (a fatty acid).
Uses by system and symptom:
- Integumentary/Skin: used for dermatitis, scabies, burns, and disinfect wounds. May help with dry skin by helping your skin keep moisture.
- Skeletal: Used for arthritic pain
- Muscular: Used for muscular pain.
- Respiratory: Oil used as an expectorant for colds, sore throat, bronchial spasms, asthma, emphysema, and sinusitis.
- Nervous: Used to help decrease anxiety and as an analgesic (pain reliever).
- Immune: Thought to have antioxidant qualities
- Other: Used as a natural insect repellent, lice treatment, and as an oral rinse.
Common doses and preparation: Leaves are often used for tea typically 1/2 teaspoon dried herb to 1 cup water. Oil used in aromatherapy and topically.
Side Effects/Precautions/Interactions: When applied to your skin make sure you use a carrier oil like jojoba. Oil may not be safe with pregnancy, seizures, and high blood pressure.
