Nutrients/Active Ingredients: Contains vitamins A, E, C, and F. Some vitamin B, iron, potassium, and Sulphur.
Uses by system and symptom:
- Digestive/Gastrointestinal: Used to treat intestinal parasites, anorexia (loss of appetite), indigestion, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and liver and gallbladder problems
- Respiratory: Used for thick wet mucous, sinus congestions postnasal drip, bronchitis, chest congestion, and seasonal allergies. Thought to have antispasmodic effect for respiratory spasms. Has been used for children's coughs and colds.
- Urinary: diuretic
Common doses and preparation: Often combined with goldenrod (antihistamine effect). Taken as tincture, in capsule form, and made into lozenges. Taste is very bitter. Used as a tonic for respiratory and digestive systems.
Side Effects/Precautions/Interactions: Not to be used if pregnant. Large doses can cause cardiac issues.
