Nutrients/Active Ingredients: Contains vitamin A,B12, C, calcium, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, zinc, thiamine, and silicon.  Contains carvacrol, linalool and terpenes.  

Uses by system and symptom:

  • Cardiovascular: Used to help decrease blood pressure.
  • Digestive/Gastrointestinal: Has been used for poor appetite, intestinal cramps, gas, liver disease, indigestion, diarrhea, colic, and gall bladder stones.  Some have used it to try to prevent or alleviate nausea associated with seasickness. 
  • Endocrine: Has been used to decrease blood sugar.
  • Integumentary/Skin:
  • Skeletal: thought to help build bone mass and prevent osteoporosis.
  • Muscular:  Has been used as an oil for muscle pain, tension, and spasms.
  • Respiratory:  Used for respiratory symptoms caused by bronchitis, sinusitis, colds, and flu by acting as a decongestant and expectorant.
  • Urinary: Used to help with urinary retention.  Has been used to try to stop bedwetting.
  • Nervous:  Has been used to stop nightmares, for stress, anxiety, and depression.  Has been used to try to help with Alzheimer's disease.  
  • Immune:  Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial.
  • Male/Female Reproductive: Menstrual cramps and menopause symptoms.

Common doses and preparation: has a wood, floral, and citrus taste.  Smells woodsy with a hint of spice. Often used as a culinary herb in  salads, in soups, and with meat dishes.  Can be taken as tea, tincture, or extract.
